Payroll Services Coordinator - Local Council
● Paying between $54.90-59.22 ph + super
● Colac VIC location
● Contract opportunity until 29th May 2026 with possible extension
About the Role:
We are looking for an experienced Payroll Services Coordinator to join local council based in the South West Region of Victoria. This is an exciting temp opportunity to join the public sector until 29th May 2026, with potential to extend.
Key responsibilities:
● Payroll Lifecycle Management: Execute full-cycle payroll processing, including terminations and leave, while performing regular reconciliations between payroll records and the general ledger.
● Regulatory & Industrial Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to ATO requirements, industrial awards, and employment contracts regarding salary classifications and statutory reporting.
● Systems & Process Optimisation: Manage and improve HRIS and payroll software functionality, implementing updates and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery.
● Financial Reporting & Analysis: Deliver strategic insights through operational statistics, salary budgeting, and the preparation of annual financial statements and liability reports.
● Internal Controls & Risk Mitigation: Maintain rigorous audit standards and fraud prevention measures by reviewing workflows and ensuring a strict separation of duties.
● Superannuation & Deductions Oversight: Administer employee superannuation schemes and diverse payroll deductions with high accuracy to ensure compliance with fund requirements.
● Records & Documentation Governance: Maintain comprehensive electronic personnel records and develop best-practice procedure manuals to ensure data integrity and process continuity.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
● Tertiary qualifications in Payroll, Accounting, Finance or Human Resources
● Previous government experience (desirable)
● Proven end to end Payroll processing experience
● Proven leadership experience in a finance or payroll environment
